I will be honest, I cannot remember a non-major tournament with the hype and interest surrounding last weekend’s WGC Bridgestone Invitational; it almost felt like a Major. What more is that I cannot remember two back-to-back weekends in golf that have had so much meaning. Now that the season’s final major is upon us, and the less important weekend is over with, we look forward to what should be a fantastic 4-day event at the Atlanta Athletic Club where the world’s best will be competing for the Wanamaker Trophy and the PGA Championship.

When ESPN, the worldwide leader in Sports, aired Sportscenter – the most popular national television sports news broadcast – in September 1979 they had no idea how big it would get. Think about it, when you are having a slow summer morning and you are, at least, somewhat of a sports fan odds are you are going to take a glance at any of their morning broadcasts during that time. In order to publicize the show in 1994, they debuted a new series of advertisements now commonly known as “This is Sportscenter” ads (it is the slogan that appears at the end of every one of the commercials). So I saw one of the ads on ESPN the other day and wondered to myself what the funniest “This is Sportscenter” (a.k.a. TIS) commercials were… so I did some research and found some funny stuff.

By now, most Golf Fans know that the long-time World Number One Tiger Woods, who has been struggling with injuries to his left leg and recovering from a scandalous divorce, is to return to the WGC Bridgestone Invitation this weekend – only one week before the season’s final major. This is not the longest recess that Tiger has taken in his historic career, however the number 21 golfer in World returns – this time – with the most questions to answer.

We are now half way through the month of July and quite a lot has transpired. The Open Championship, MLB All-Star Festivities, and Women’s FIFA World Cup – which I never thought I would be this interested in – have now concluded; they were the premiere events this July. With that being said today on the East Side we are going to take a look at what, where, and who have been hot; and who really have not been so hot with mid-way through the summer.
