At the end of every month on the EastSide we take a moment to step back and view the realm of sports as one entity. This Top Ten may include Highlights, Stories, etc., ultimately helping the fan get a feel for what I thought were the best of sports for the month of June 2011.

What can I say about the month of June? It is where the beginning of summer meets the blood, sweat, and determination of a team to reach the Finals – in both the NBA and the NHL. June is the month in which athletes take their games to another level…and then they take it a little higher. The end goal is in sight, and three of the grandest prizes in sports are on the line – The Larry O’Brien, Stanley Cup, and the US Open Trophies. This June however was different, however, because some surprise stories took place; this month select athletes took the initiative to write their own stories, it made for an intriguing month to say the least. So without further adieu, let the countdown begin.

Now that I have established who I believe will be taken in the first ten picks of this year’s NBA Draft, I thought it would serve a justice to finish out the first round. This will give you all a chance to see some of the real prospects whom are NBA bound and how just one first pick by one single team can make the biggest difference of shaping how the league looks when the 2011-2012 season is cued up.

I want to start this long, emotional piece – and I’m going to try to be as unbiased a heat fan as possible – off by saying that I am enthralled for Dallas; congratulations on winning your first NBA Championship. I will comeback to Dallas and the mark that they just made on NBA History later, but after some thought I decided to disect their opponent first.

With Game 6 of the 2011 NBA Finals looming, we are all curious to see two things; can the Mavericks close it out..in Miami? Or can the Heat, despite multiple controversies, look like the team that is 9-1 at home and send the series into 7?
