To kick-off my weekend I went to go check out the new movie that has everyone buzzing – Moneyball – when I started to walk out of the theater I was a loss of words to describe how good this movie was. This, I thought to myself, was a rare spectacle … rarely do I find myself entranced on a movie to the point that I am almost consumed in the movie, but the comedy and emotional one-two punch of the film had me in awe for all 126 minutes. I got to thinking last night, what are my favorite Sports Movies of all time? No, I’m not talking comedies like Talladega Nights, Caddyshack, Happy Gilmore, Blades of Glory, or The Waterboy; I’m talking about true-stories, a detailed and believable plot-line, and – in some cases – tear-jerking closings. Without further adieu, here’s my top ten…

At the end of every month on the Eastside we take a moment to step back and view the realm of sports as one entity. This Top Ten may include Highlights, Stories, etc., ultimately helping the fan get a feel for what I thought were the best of sports for the month of August 2011.

What can I say about the month of August? We are kicking back into gear with school and sports alike; and football is about to refill our lives. August has seen an unexpected finish to a Major Championship, an eventful NFL pre-season, an escalating MLB playoff race, a lockout seemingly accomplishing nothing, and the return of an ex-golf superstar; definitely a month to remember.

10 – Pete Carroll, ex-Collegiate Program Ruiner and the Seattle Seahawks Head Coach, was in the news just this past week; not for a great job coaching nor a landslide victory, but pulling a prank. Carroll brought a couple of cops into a Team Meeting Session to fake-arrest Seahawk’s Raheem Brock. Through all of our eyes the prank was pretty good, I mean he really had him going; however I could see it if Brock was upset, he did a great job laughing at himself though.

With that being said today on the East Side we are going to take a look at what, where, and who have been hot; and who really have not been so hot with mid-way through the summer.

With the U.S. Women’s World Cup Soccer Team coming off of one of the most unbelievable, memorable moments in World Cup History with Abby Wambach’s stoppage time in extra time header goal a lot of talk has risen about what the top sports moments in the last ten years have been. So I ask, where does the U.S. Women’s Goal this past Sunday rank among the most enthralling moments in the past ten years in Sports?

As I brainstormed moments for this article, I remembered why I am a sports fan; it is because of the periodic magic that ignites the fans. I reviewed these highlights and a couple of them I sat there and thought about where I was and what I did once it happened. I tried to remember the ones that I had gone the most crazy over, and by no means is this perfect; however it should be very suitable for this category.

The Magic of the Bench-Clearing Brawl is second to none in sports; I mean you talk about something that will get the juices pumping! It’s something that you can use to talk about with a sports fan when you are bored, it’s an occurrence that can have one player up in angst with another, and it can start potentially start a rivalry between two teams. Sports nuts live for the cheap-shots and take-downs involved in these great backyard fights; and for this reason did I decide to do a write-up replete with all you can get bench-clearing fights! Enjoy.
