If you can remember back to the very first post ever on this blog from the music section, then you’ll see that there was some Dylan Owen on there. If you’re not familiar, Dylan Owen is an up and coming artist from Ithaca, NY who has been rising for the last couple months. His story started very similar to many other indie rappers as he first began free-styling in middle school and building a name for himself through battles. He then transformed to writing full songs and rapping full time. And the rest is history.

The one thing I have noticed about Dylan Owen so far is that he knows how to control the stage on live performances; and this has lead to him performing with many extremely popular artists. In the fall of 2009, Dylan Owen performed alongside Asher Roth in Pennsylvania. Later he won the Break Contest (which is a series of battle-of-the-bands at The Chance in Poughkeepsie, NY over the course of five months) which earned him a spot on the Bamboozle 2010 line-up. This lead to him performing at Giants Stadium with Sam Adams, Wiz Khalifa, Wale, Grieves and Spose. But that’s not all, Dylan Owen has also performed at sold out shows with Chiddy Bang, Tayyib Ali and Mac Miller. DO’s debut album, Senioritis, was released back in the summer of 2010 and even managed to chart on the top Hip-Hop/Rap chart on iTunes and was very well received by the fans. I’m really going to focus on two tracks, but I highly recommend that you peep the whole album; it’s worth it. The first is called Old Armor and is an amazing introduction track to new DO fans. It has catchy, quick verses and a smiple, but extremely effective hook. The next record is easily Dylan Owen’s best piece of work to date. And that record goes by the name of The Book Report. It is an emotional song and it has DO at his best. Incredible, sing-songy hook and moving, passionate lyrics; what more could you ask for?
