We are switching it up today here at the ESP and covering a new duo. N.A.S.A. is a duo composed of LA producer Squeak E. Clean and Brazilian DJ, DJ Zegon. The duo has some of the widest variety of musical influences I’ve ever seen in a group, if I were to classify their music it would be in the hip-hop/indie/pop/electronica/alternative/funk/reggae and that doesn’t even fully describe what they do as a group. They have crazy production skills and their ability to crossover genres seamlessly appeals to almost any music fan.

N.A.S.A. stands for North America/South America as Squeak E. Clean is from NA and DJ Zegon is from SA. The amazing thing behind the group though is what they stand for. Their idea is to ignore all of the boundaries and borders that are in place to keep people divided, such as musical genre, race, politics, geography, language, etc. As a result, they gathered perhaps the most eclectic collection of musicians ever assembled on one album in the hope that they can show, through music, that all those superficial divisions are an illusion. N.A.S.A. strives to prove that we are all one race of human beings interested in collaboration and unity by ignoring preconceptions, and transcending genre definitions. That album that I am talking about is The Spirit of Apollo and the guest features on it are just insane. The features include Chuck D, M.I.A., Stanigold, Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Kanye West, Lykke Li, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, RZA, Method Man, E-40, Ghostface Killah, John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Chali 2na of Jurassic 5, George Clinton, Scarface, DJ AM, The Cool Kids, Del the Funkee Homosapian and KRS-One. Those guest features are crazy and enough to warrant a download right away. The LP has tons of standouts that included The People Tree, Money, N.A.S.A. Music, Way Down, Hip-Hop, Gifted, Watchadoin? and The Mayor. The album is amazing overall as it transcends many different genres. With a greater goal in hand and a crazy album to their name, N.A.S.A. is truly a great group. With the ability to crossover from alternative to funk to hip-hop to electronica in the matter of track, it blows the mind to imagine what N.A.S.A. is capable of.
