Updated! Now with the official tracklisting!

On Thursday, July 7th Jay-Z held an extremely private listening session for his Watch the Throne project with Kanye West which is set to drop on August 2nd. No tweeting was allowed (apparently someone was thrown out for it), however the reporters were allowed to take notes. While most of the people who attended have stated their own thoughts via different methods, an overall view of each track played has been compiled by the people who were there. So check below for a track by track preview of the highly anticipated Kanye West and Jay-Z album, Watch the Throne!

Track 1 (Intro/No Church In a While)
• Heavy beat with lots of bass
• Heavy drums
• Frank Ocean on the hook
• Jay has the first verse, Kanye has the second verse
• Frank Ocean has an interlude in between Jay and Kanye’s verses
• Bridge with distortion
• Animal noises in the outro

Track 2 (Lift Off)
• Intro with horns in the background
• Beyonce on the chorus
• Ye’s doing his semi-rapping thing, Runaway style
• Kanye has first verse, Jay has second
• Kanye is on auto-tune at one point
• Samples a countdown of a NASA space launch at the end
• Radio potential

Track 3
• Heavy hitting Hit-Boy produced beat
• Beat compared to Drop the World by Lil Wayne
• Jay has first verse, Kanye has second
• Samples the movie Blades of Glory

Track 4
• Intro samples Blades of Glory
• Classic Kanye West beat
• Jay and Ye take turns (similar to Common’s Southside)
• Favorite of most people there

Track 5
• Electronic jazz sounding beat
• Might be produced by RZA
• Intro with female who is auto-tuned and Kanye ad-libs
• Piano and sample driven beat
• Song is all about Jay and Kanye rapping about the children they’ll have in the future
• There’s a sax interlude

Track 6 (Living So Italian)
Port ti Volare sample
• Heavy hitting drum beat over a sample a few seconds into the track
• Described as a “banger”

Track 7
• Indian influenced sample

Track 8 (Who Gon Stop Me)
• Had a dance/rave style vibe to the beat
• Dubstep influenced song
• Samples I Can’t Stop by Flux Pavilion

Track 9 (Murder to Excellence)
• Another middle eastern/Indian style beat
• There’s a shift in the second half
• Interlude

Track 10 (Sweet Baby Jesus)
• A slower style song compared to others on the album
• Frank Ocean is on the hook

Track 11 (Why I Love You So)
• Samples I Love You So by Cassius
• Jay has first verse, Kanye has second
• Mike Dean said the beat needs work

After he played the 11 tracks, Jay announced that this was not the final tracklisting. He continued to play a few the the tracks that did/might not make the album. To end the listening session, Jay answered a few question:
H.A.M. may or may not be a bonus track
• Jay has a new solo album coming out and Frank Ocean will be on it
• The album was remade three times
• The album making process was documented but may or may not be released
• Q-Tip is mastering That’s My B***h right now

Kanye West & Jay-Z – That’s My B***h (feat. La Roux)

Kanye West & Jay-Z – H.A.M.

This really gets me pumped for Watch the Throne as it is going to be released in just under a month. It clocked in at number three on my Top 10 Most Anticipated Albums of the Summer so I’m really looking forward to it. I’m glad to see that there are almost no guest features on here, just Kanye and Jay exchanging bars for a whole album with a hook from Odd Future member, Frank Ocean and Beyonce thrown in there. The last thing I have to say is, what a completely lame album cover.

01 No Church In the Wild (feat. Frank Ocean)
02 Lift Off (feat. Beyoncé)
03 N****s In Paris
04 Otis (feat. Otis Redding)
05 Gotta Have It
06 New Day
07 Who Gon’ Stop Me
08 Murder to Excellence
09 Welcome to the Jungle
10 Sweet Baby Jesus (feat. Frank Ocean)
11 Love You So (feat. Mr. Hudson)
12 Illest M**********r Alive (Bonus Track)
13 H.A.M. (Bonus Track)
14 That’s My B***h (Bonus Track)
15 The Joy (feat. Curtis Mayfield) (Bonus Track)

The tracklisting is not in the same order as the tracks previewed above however some look like they are in the same spots. This final tracklisting has my anticipation through the roof for Watch the Throne. The bonus tracks will only be featured on the deluxe edition of the album. They include the first (terrible) single H.A.M., the previously leaked That’s My B***h which was supposedly re-worked and The Joy, one of the most underrated G.O.O.D. Music Friday tracks. So go support them when the album drops!
