You’ve probably heard of him by now, but Shawn Chrystopher is making some huge noise out of Inglewood, California. He has worked with artists such as XV and Big Sean to Mike Posner to Owl City. That wide variety of collaborations has garnered Shawn a huge following and a dedicated fan base. Shawn Chrystopher has also stated his opinion on several major issues in music today such as the lack of true artist development by labels, the rush of one-hit wonders diluting the world of hip-hop and the reoccurring philosophies of money over art that overwhelm the radio station (these also reflect my own opinion too). So come check out what makes Shawn Chrystopher the next big thing our of the west coast below!

Shawn Chrystopher has an extremely interesting childhood story. First of all in elementary school Shawn skipped from kindergarten all the way up to the second grade. Which resulted in him graduating high school at the age of 16. All the way throughout high school, Shawn was in the school band. The place where he learned all about how to create music and the music theory. He was then awarded a four and a half year scholarship to the University of Southern California (USC) where he would go on to major in political science. All of these adds up to Shawn Chrystopher being a great emcee. Shawn has been very busy since 2009 releasing a total of three mixtapes and three albums, including all three albums in the year of 2010. The mixtapes have all been in the I.W.G. (I Wear Glasses) series and the three albums have been titled A City With No Seasons, The Audition and You & You Only. Shawn Chrystopher has a very unique sound, reminding me of almost of a combination between XV and B.o.B with a west coast flare to him. This creates a very diverse and unique artist. My favorite songs from Shawn are probably The Hangover, Catch Me If You Can and So Stupid. The best though is definitely The Hangover where Shawn just raps about this hysterical hangover he experiences. I would definitely recommend listening to it as it shows of his more creative and comical side, also watch the music video as it plays out the story.

So Stupid is an extremely catchy song, where in the video Shawn shows of that he can ball because he takes part in a game of H-O-R-S-E with his friends. Catch Me If You Can is the record that Shawn is probably most known for as it is really good and fun cut. I can’t get over it, but on this track Shawn sounds exactly like B.o.B.

Shawn Chrystopher is a breathe of fresh air when it comes down to just straight making music. He isn’t trying to out “gangsta” anyone, he just wants to make good music. Being self -made and having to come through the music industry on his own, Shawn will continue on continue on his grind for a long time to come.
