Updated! Now with official artwork + tracklisting!

This post is basically just me stating my feelings on Kendrick Lamar’s upcoming album, Section.80 which I have a feeling will be the best album of the entire year. If you have been following this blog, you have probably realized by now that Kendrick Lamar is my favorite emcee of all time and his previous album O(verly) D(edicated) is my favorite project ever. I can’t state enough how much I am anticipating Section.80. If you don’t think it’s going to be that good (which is insane) let me convince you that it will be amazing below.
Hit the jump for a preview + leaks + interviews + more!

The first leak from the album was the first official single, titled HiiiPoWeR. Over a J. Cole produced beat, Kendrick absolutely rips it apart, both with his flow and lyrically. The two are still supposedly working on a collaboration mixtape together, but that has been put to the side for Section.80 and Cole World: Sideline Story. The beat on HiiPoWeR is crazy and it really shows how good J. Cole is behind the boards, but the real star of the show is Kendrick Lamar. I would consider this song a Kendrick Lamar classic, as he showcases how much of a lyrical monster he is. There aren’t any topics he is scared to go at, and that’s a great thing. When you look at it, all the great emcees had their controversial songs. The music video really shows how creative he is an artist and paints the picture that Kendrick rapped in the song.

The next leak from the album is called Sex Society. Kendrick really changes his style on this song. The chorus is definitely different and I kinda pass on it, but his verses are insane. His flow is off the chain and he keeps it up throughout the entire song. I think some people will just skip the song after hearing the first chorus, but fight through it and just get to the verses. I hope this is the worst song on the album, because if it is Section.80 will be the best album ever.

The last leak from Section.80 is Ronald Reagan Era. Let me start this off by saying this is my favorite song of the entire year up to this point. The bridge into the song is absolutely perfect as it sets the tone for the rest of the song. Kendrick absolutely rips this song to shreds as his first verse is crazy, dropping lines such as “you n****s Marcus Camby, washed up”. His vocabulary on here is above and beyond 98% of other rappers today and he seems to do it so easily. Tae Beast really brought his A-game when it came down to the production, as it is one of the best beats I’ve heard recently. The hook on here is insanely catchy as Kendrick just chants “whoopty woop” and it really adds to the overall feel of the song. The weird thing about Ronald Reagan Era is that it was supposed to have an RZA feature and it even says it does, but he doesn’t even get a verse. He contribution on this song is almost none, a verse from RZA would have taken this song to a whole nother level.

Kendrick chops it up with MeetTheDealer about Ronald Reagan Era w/ RZA, his East Coast influences, a hypothetical weed anthem with Wiz Khalifa and Spitta, Section.80, his collab project with J. Cole and more.

This is a preview of a new joint between J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar. I’m not sure if it’s off of that supposed collaboration mixtape or Section.80 but I really hope it is off of Section.80 as it sounds dope as hell. The beat on it is real smooth and J. Cole and Kendrick both drop crazy verses.

If you don’t believe that the legendary Dr. Dre is working with Kendrick on his project, then check out this video. It can’t mean anything but the best. Hearing Kendrick over a Dre beat would be a dream.

Kendrick Lamar has the ability to drop a lyrical master piece or shock you with his flow or create a monster of a banger with each and every song. He is part of the “new west” that is bringing it back to the promised land. With J. Cole, Tae Beast, Willie B, RZA, Ab-Soul, Schoolboy Q all leaving a footprint on Section.80 it will be the album of the year. Watch out.

Thoughts on the tracklist are: I’m glad there are little features as it’s gonna be Kendrick for the whole tape. I’m really disappointed that there are no Dr. Dre productions and that there are a total of zero guest appearances from J. Cole (especially the song Temptation). I also noticed that Sex With Society is completely missing from the final tracklisting, oh well. But overall I’m happy and this just gets me even more pumped.
